AC not cooling — upstairs unit

Wants someone out today

Called at 2:13 PM.

Sent to Mike:

Thanks for calling Carolina Air. We’ve got your info and someone will reach out shortly.

This is what lands on your phone.

The problem

You’re not losing calls because you’re bad at answering the phone.

You’re on a roof. You’re under a house. You’re driving with a unit in the back. The phone rings and there’s no way to get to it — and by the time you can, that customer has already called the next company on the list.

Nobody leaves a voicemail

People don’t wait for a callback anymore. They hang up and tap the next result. You never find out the call happened.

The worst timing is the best lead

The AC dies at 6pm in July. The heat goes out at 11pm in January. Those are the most urgent calls you get, and they’re the ones nobody’s there to answer.

You can’t fix what you can’t see

Missed calls don’t show up anywhere. There’s no report, no number, no list. The money just quietly doesn’t arrive.

The math

What a missed call actually costs

Run it with your own numbers. Most shops are surprised by the second column.

Example figures, not a promise — plug in your own call volume and average ticket. If you’re not sure how many you miss, that’s the first thing we’ll find out for you.

How it works

Four things happen. You only do one of them.

There’s nothing to learn and nothing to check. It sits behind your existing phone and only steps in when a call would otherwise be lost.

STEP 1

STEP 1

A customer calls the number they already have

The one on your truck, your website, and your Google listing. Nothing about how you advertise changes.

STEP 2

STEP 2

Your phone rings first, and if you answer, we’re not involved

You take the call the way you always have. [COMPANY NAME] stays out of it completely. On a day where you catch every call, you’d never know it was there.

STEP 3

STEP 3

If nobody picks up, we do

We answer as your company, find out who’s calling, what’s wrong, and how urgent it is — then tell them you’ll be in touch shortly. We never quote a price and never promise a time.

STEP 4

STEP 4

You get a text with everything you need

Name, number, problem, urgency — on your phone in under a minute, with the number ready to tap. The customer gets a text too, so they stop calling around.

What you get

Practical things, not features.

Keep your phone number

No new number to advertise, no change to your Google listing, no reprinting anything.

Nights and weekends covered

The calls that come in at 9pm get the same answer as the ones at 9am.

No one new to hire

A front desk costs a salary. This costs a fraction of one and doesn’t call in sick.

Faster than the other guy

The company that responds first usually gets the job. Your customer hears back in seconds.

Set up in about an hour

We do the setup. You approve one change to your call forwarding and that’s your part done.

Every call written down

You get a record of what came in and what we caught, so you can see what it’s actually doing for you.

Fit

This isn’t right for every shop.

We’d rather tell you now than take your money and have you cancel in a month.

A good fit if

You’re an owner-operated residential HVAC company, roughly 2–15 people.

You and your techs answer your own phones between jobs.

You know calls are going to voicemail and you can’t do much about it.

After-hours calls are either missed or handled by someone just taking a message.

One recovered job would more than cover what this costs.

Not a good fit if

You have a receptionist or dispatcher who reliably answers every call.

You run a phone menu or a multi-line system customers navigate.

Your work is commercial and contract-based rather than inbound and urgent.

You’d rather a call go to voicemail than have an assistant speak to your customers.

Founder portrait

Who’s behind this

We’re new, and we’re not going to pretend otherwise.

I started Merbler after calling a stack of HVAC companies and finding that most of them didn’t answer — and not one of them called or texted me back. That’s a lot of money walking out the door for a problem that’s fixable.

We’re working with a small number of HVAC companies first, on purpose. It means you’ll deal with me directly, you’ll get my cell number, and if something isn’t working you’ll hear about it from us before you notice it yourself.

What it costs

Straightforward, and we’ll tell you on the call.

A one-time setup fee, then a flat monthly. We’ll give you the exact numbers in the walkthrough — no quote form, no waiting on a proposal.

No long contract

If it isn’t paying for itself, tell us and we’ll switch it off.

Setup is done for you

Not a fee for software you then configure yourself.

Priced against one job

If it doesn’t cover its own cost, it isn’t worth either of our time.

Questions

The things people ask first.

Do I need a new phone number?

No. You keep the number you have. We set up call forwarding so that when a call isn’t answered, it comes to us — everything you’ve advertised stays exactly as it is.

Will my customers know they’re talking to an assistant?

Yes. It answers as your company’s assistant, and if someone asks directly whether they’re talking to a person, it tells them straight. It won’t pretend to be you, and it won’t try to fool anybody.

What happens if I answer the phone?

Nothing. Merbler only picks up when nobody does. If you catch the call, you’d have no way of knowing we were there.

How long does setup take?

About an hour, and we do it. We’ll need some basics from you — your hours, your service area, what you do and don’t work on — and one change to your call forwarding, which we walk you through.

Is this only for HVAC?

Right now, yes. We built it specifically around how HVAC calls come in and what customers ask about, and we’d rather do one trade properly than several badly. Other trades will come later.

What happens after hours?

Exactly the same as during the day. Someone calling at 10pm gets answered and you get the text. Whether you call them back that night is up to you.

What if it doesn’t understand somebody?

It doesn’t guess. If it can’t handle something, it tells the customer you’ll call them right back and sends you what it did get. A partial message with a phone number still beats a missed call.

Will it quote prices or book appointments?

No, on purpose. It never gives a price and never promises a time — those are yours to decide when you call back. Its job is to catch the lead, not to run your calendar.

What about spam and robocalls?

We filter them out. You get texts about real customers, not about extended warranties.

Find out what you’re missing.

We’ll call your shop like a customer would, show you exactly what happens, and walk you through the rest in about fifteen minutes. If it’s not a fit, we’ll say so.

No pressure and no contract to sign on the call.
